Lovran - old town
Lovran

Lovran is placed on Riviera of Opatija, under Mountain Ucka. The town is surrounded by oaks and chestnut-trees, takes its name by the laurels that grow everywhere in the town and with palms and flowered bushes are the main characteristic of the vegetation.
Originally protected by walls and bastions the town conserves in its old part the antique medieval aspect.
The first touristic structure has built in 1873 (Villa Fernandea today connected to the Belvedere Hotel) and, in the same period, has built the picturesque Promenade on the sea that goes along the coast for 8 km joining Lovran (on the south side of Opatija) to Volosko (on the north side of Opatija).

Lovran is a seaside resort very known endowed with good touristic structures; it is possible to practise different sports as fishing, tennis, sailing, aqua-skiing, and it is possible, among other things, to have relaxing walks on Ucka Mountain. In Summer the town is animated by fishermen's parties and musical performances on the open air, while in Autumn there is the "Marunada" - during this feast it is possible to taste fancy cakes and sweets made by chestnuts according to traditional recipes.
